Regal sat in the center of the mainstream automotive market, a midsize sedan that competed against the likes of Chevrolet Lumina, Dodge Monaco and Intrepid, Ford Taurus, Toyota Camry and Honda Accord in this popular segment.

This generation of the Buick Regal coupe started off as a 1988 model, while the sedan launched in 1990.
