Year-to-year changes

1991

Geo's largest vehicle, the Prizm, originally included a 5-door hatchback and a 4-door sedan, as both base and GSi models.

1992

The 5-door hatchback was dropped in 1992, leaving only the 4-door sedan.

1993

The Geo Prizm sedan was redesigned, and offered in two trim levels, standard and the more deluxe LSi. Prizm was a GM/Toyota joint project. It competed with Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Nissan Sentra and Hyundai Elantra.

The standard sedan used a 105-horsepower, 1.6-liter engine, while LSi models had 10 more hp available with an optional 1.8-liter Four. Standard transmission with either engine was a 5-speed manual. A 3-speed automatic transaxle was an option with the smaller engine, while an electronically controlled 4-speed automatic was the option with the bigger powerplant.

All Prizms came with dual outside mirrors, and stainless steel exhaust systems standard. Dual-mode safety belts on the front passenger seat and outboard rear seating positions made the installation of child safety seats less of a chore. The LSi added air conditioning, full wheel covers, split folding 60/40 rear seat, an optional rear stabilizer bar (which comes with the larger engine), and upscale interior trim.

Other options included an electric sunroof, rear window defogger, dual power outside mirrors and antilock brakes. Three audio packages, all optional, began with an AM/FM stereo, and ended with a tape/CD player and six speakers.

1994

Dual airbags were added for this year.

1995

Although there were virtually no changes in 1995, the Prizm did have some new interior fabrics, exterior colors and new wheel covers.

1997

The Prizm drops to 100 horsepower.
