Ford's closest competitor to its Expedition and Mercury's Mountaineer was the Lincoln Navigator, a full-size SUV that was introduced in August 1997 as a 1998 model.

Year-to-year changes[edit | edit source]

1998[edit | edit source]

The original Lincoln Navigator only had 230 horsepower.

1999[edit | edit source]

When the 1999 models were released, each unit featured 70 more horsepower for a total of 300. Until 2005, it was still only available as one trim level, with either rear (4x2) or 4-wheel drive (4x4).
