The Saab 9-3 was introduced in Spring 1998 as an early 1999 model, replacing the Saab 900. Production of the first generation 9-3 ended in 2002.

The 200-horsepower SE models were only available for this model year, while the 185-horsepower base hatchbacks sold through 2001, and the 185-hp convertible through 2000.
